The Beginning
Hi! My name is Erin and I am the founder of Sunshine Thrift.
I started Sunshine Thrift in April 2023 because I felt as though I had been left behind in the shift towards shopping second hand. It was something I wanted to do, I just didn't know how.
Charity shops, online marketplaces and car boot sales were so far removed from what I was used to as a shopper that it just felt well out of my reach.
And any experiences I did have when shopping second hand were negative. Faulty items and orders sent in supermarket carrier bags. Why!?
Online shopping on the other hand? Well I had that down to a fine art.
And what about homewares? I don't mean true vintage furniture or ornamental glassware. I mean, the soft furnishings, cute knick knacks and personal touches that we put in our houses to make them feel like homes.
Second hand and vintage shouldn't be a rip off. In fact, second hand retailers should be honest with their pricing so that you can see how much you are truly saving.
I felt like it was one barrier after another. All I wanted to do was continue shopping the brands which reflect my style and budget, but pay a little less. Paying a little less on brands which would normally be outside of my reach would have been a nice little bonus.
And then I realised, if shopping second hand was a more convenient, accessible, less of a hassle free experience then maybe more people would be inclined (because who doesn't want to reduce waste to landfill by choosing second hand)?
